Demographic Leader-Swapping

Unless I am mistaken in my understanding of the numbers, there's a profound demographic irony in Israel's divide right now: a well-connected Ashkenazi (Bibi, like Begin before him) leads a coalition that is largely working class Sephardic and Mizrahi, while a humble Sephardi (Gadi) leads a coalition that is largely elite Ashkenazi.

This, I suppose, finalizes something that began back in the later 1970s - when Begin, who was Ashkenazi but lived humbly and 'identified' with Israel's fast-growing Sephardic and Mizrahi populations, at last broke the hold of (mainly Ashkenazi) Labour over Israel's politics. With Labour's subsequent atrophy and the rise of Gadi's bloc as 'the' alternative to Likud, we now a complete demographic 'leader-swap,' it seems.
