'One Viper Will Devour Another'
Of Campism, Non-Binaryness, and Enemies' Enemies as Fwiends
I don't think I experienced mass campism till 2022, and I am fairly sure I never looked up the word till last year. In any event, it strikes me as a strange phenom - especially in an age where being 'non-binary' is 'a thing' among mu fellow self-styled lefties - and even a widely defended such thing.
What saliently happened in 2022 was of course Russia's invasion of Ukraine...
I have long been a defender of Russia against post- Cold War US and Nato machinations - even wrote President Clinton while still a student complaining of our being such assholes to Yeltsin - and hence understood Putin's anger post-2014.
But this didn't mean I was 'happy' about his invasion, any more than I was 'happy' about Ukraine's successful resistance. I saw and still see the whole business as tragic for both 'sides,' essentially a civil war between post-Habsburg and post-Romanov halves of Ukraine with interested outside parties - Russia and 'Europe' - intervening much as they did back in 1936 Spain.
That sucks.
My self-professed fellow-lefty friends, though, all celebrated Putin's invasion, openly mocked Ukrainians who dared sing their national anthem in public, and constantly predicted, wishfully-thinkingly, imminent Russian victory. I didn't and still don't understand that.
I sympathize greatly with the pre-2014, Putin but can't celebrate all those bombings of Kiev just because he's the 'enemy of my enemy,' meddling expansionist Nato.
Looking now at Iran, I seem to see the same thing. Trump is grotesque and a mortal enemy of much that is decent. But the terror theocracy now lording over Iran is not decent; it is worse even than Trump is, by far.
That it calls itself a 'resistance' while murdering and mayheming everywhere in the name of a barbarous millenarian delusion is just a sick joke, something that only cartoon-addicts could fall for.
And yet here they are, self-professed lefties again - PSEUDO-lefties - cheering on finger-wag woman-killers and their equally grotesque subsidiaries region-wide, all because Trump is the one they are fighting.
Fuck that.
Your enemy's enemy ain't always your fwiend, cutie. Why not be 'non-binary' here as you claim to be elsewhere? The motto in this case should be Dostoevsky's: sometimes 'one viper devours another.'
Relax and enjoy. When THESE snakes both go we will ALL be far better off.
