Projective-Oikophobic Antisemitism
The new, partly outside-financed oikophobia of the contemporary Occident, combined with the longstanding human tendency nevertheless to want to blame anyone but oneself for one's wrongs even while posturing as a contrite moralist ('virtue-signaling'), seems to be driving yet another episode of otherization and blame of a discrete and particular ('insular'), while likewise (just barely) scapegoat here in the West.
The requisite Western 'other' has of course always classically been, and now seems again to be, 'the Jews.' They first were the scapegoat of occidental Christian guilt, and now (under the new, laundering term 'Zios') are the scapegoat of zombie occidental 'post-' Christian guilt - or what I'll call secular oikophobia.
It is as if a dynamic of the following form has set-in: The early Christians' projection of personal-sin guilt onto those who occasioned their 'anxiety of influence' by, or their 'Oedipal resentment' of, the parent religion whose identity they had appropriated - the Jews - has now morphed into a new post-Christian projection of collective imperial-bigotry guilt onto, ironically, the first victims of that occidental wrong - viz. the Rome-exiled Jews as now nationally reconstituted: the Israelis.
If oikophobia ever becomes 'a thing' in 'the Orient' (G-d, let us hope not), the virtue-signaling now widespread in the Occident will likely take the form of scapegoating its traditional internal 'other,' the ethnic Chinese minority community. For the Chinese diaspora is to the East much what the Jewish diaspora has been, since Rome's incomplete ethnic-cleansing of Judea 2000 years ago, to the West.
China itself, however, populous and powerful as it is, might find it easier to beckon its diaspora home than has tiny, surrounded Israel. Especially as Jew-hating obsession with, and violent persecution, of Israel has ticked-up and spread.
In that sense, any future 'Oriental oikophobia' might prove less damaging than is contemporary Occidental oikophobia. That is good to know, but even better would be both this and an end to the self-indulgent performative self-loathing, still guilt-projecting, antisemitic lunacy now sweeping the West.
